The 2011 vintage was an interesting season with cool weather and quite a lot of rainfall. One might expect this variety to have difficulty ripening in a cool year. It did it in a canter.
Ripe fruit, hallmark Nebbiolo savouriness, a bit of funk and bags of charm. Tannic early but lovely fine extract with characters of wild herb and damp soil.
Winemaking: 100% destemmed, no crushing. 24 days on skins, nervous about colour and extract early, lovely character and colour after 18 days. Lots of mid ferment hand and foot plunging, but quite gentle and hands off at either end of fermentation. Aged in some 500L older casks for 12 months, gravity where possible.
Analysis: alc/vol: 12.0% pH: 3.69 Total Acid: 6.15
