Vintage Conditions
The season in the Hunter Valley for 2009-2010 saw above average rainfall with plenty falling in the Spring months. This provided adequate sub soil moisture for the spring and summer months. Good weather was experienced for the ripening and picking of the select parcels of Syrah for rose.
Winemaking
Select parcels of Syrah were sourced from our Wills Hill Vineyard from the blocks planted in the soil of duplex red clay loam containing decomposed laterite granite known as “Ironstone”. The select parcels of fruit once picked were taken straight to press where the resultant juice was settled overnight and racked to old “hogsheads” for fermentation with indigenous yeast. Once ferment is complete ageing on lees with regular stirring occurs, this helps develop texture and depth to the wine. The final wine is then racked, settled and bottled ready in time for summer.
